These Famous People Used Standing Desks


The  standing desk has always been trendy. In addition to the growing number of employees at Facebook, Google, and yes, even the White House trading in their sitting desks for standing ones, we thought it would be interesting to highlight some famous people who also used a standing desk.

Why do Facebook employees use a standing desk?

A standing desk sits high off the floor so a worker can either stand at it or sit on a high stool. Mark Zuckerberg chooses to work at a standing desk and encourages employees at his Facebook office to use them as well.

Officials at Palo Alto-based Facebook say a number of employees asked about standing desks after news articles were published about the health risks of sitting all day. In recent years many medical studies have concluded that sitting for too long leads to increased health risks.

Sitting all day is not good for your mind, body and health. A good mix of standing and sitting gives your body an extra measure of energy and creativity. I guess this is why so many powerful and creative people from history and present have used standing desks.

It is said that standing desks date at least back to the 1400s - Leonardo Da Vinci used one. He stood by his standing desk as he created the "Mona Lisa."

Thomas Jefferson worked at an adjustable height standing desk. One of the more interesting pieces of furniture owned by Jefferson was a tall, sit or stand desk for reading or drawing.
